Activism

  • Write to stores and businesses who have establishments in your area encouraging them to stay open late (all night if possible). You may have more success with national chains than with local businesses, but it's still worth a try. Don't be discouraged if you can't get them all to stay open all night: even getting the local grocery store to change its closing time from the current time of 10 p.m. to, say, midnight just on Fridays is a step in the right direction and can be a big help.

  • Write the U.S. Govenment and your Congressional representatives about having nighttime hours, at LEAST once a week, for its offices.

  • Lobby your local government (City Council, County, State) to have its offices all open into the nighttime hours at least once a week.

  • If your local banks and utilities offices don't have at least a night deposit box, raise hell. Night deposit facilities are standard practice almost everywhere now, and though it is not nearly the same as having the establishment's full services available, it's better than nothing.

  • Organize. Locate other Night People in your area or in your office, and have letter-writing campaigns as a group. Twelve letters to the local store will make a much greater impact than just your one letter.
